Privacy policy and posting rules

What this site is
Jan Hisaab Nashik is a free civic site. Citizens post local problems, tag the government office responsible and their Nagar Sevak, MLA and MP, and everyone can see how long each problem has been waiting. Every new problem is checked by the site admin before it goes live. Information about elected representatives comes from public records such as PRS Legislative Research and election affidavits (MyNeta).
What we collect
- Your email address and password, only to sign you in and keep you signed in. Your email is never shown on the site, and your password is stored scrambled, so nobody — including us — can read it.
- What you post: the text, any photo or video, links, the constituency, prabhag, locality and the offices or leaders you tag.
- The location of the problem, only if you tap “Add exact location (GPS)”. It is the spot where the problem is, it is shown on a map with your post, and your browser asks your permission first. To fill in the locality name, the location is sent once to OpenStreetMap’s address lookup.
- “Me too” and reports you make on posts.
- Your language and constituency choice are saved only in your own browser.
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't sell or share your data.
What is public
Your posts, photos, videos, links and replies are public, and anyone can share them. They appear under “Citizen”, not your name or email. Your posts are linked to an anonymous account number, so someone could tell that two posts came from the same account. Photos are re-saved when you upload them, which removes hidden location data stored in phone photos (only the location you add on purpose is shown). Videos are uploaded as they are, so avoid filming anything that identifies you if that matters to you.
Why we use it
To run the site: to let you sign in, show your posts, count how long problems wait, and keep the site free of abuse. Signing up means you consent to this under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Who processes it
Data is stored with Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage, hosted in Mumbai, India). The website files are hosted by Vercel. Maps use OpenStreetMap.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it. You can delete any of your posts at any time. “Delete my account” on the Account tab permanently removes your account, your posts, replies, photos and videos.
Your rights
You can see and delete your posts yourself, and delete your whole account. To ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or anything else, write to the contact below. You can also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Age
You must be 18 or older to create an account.
Posting rules
- Post about public problems: roads, water, garbage, power, safety, services.
- Name offices, places and elected representatives in their public role. Do not name or target private individuals.
- No phone numbers, home addresses, ID numbers or other personal details, yours or anyone else's.
- No faces of children, no graphic images, no hate speech, threats or abuse.
- Post facts you have seen. Do not post accusations of crimes or corruption against named people.
- Only the citizen who posted a problem can mark it fixed. Mark it honestly.
Every new problem is checked before it goes live; posts that break these rules are not approved, and the reason is shown to you. The clock for the office starts when a post goes live. Anyone can report a live post. Moderators hide posts that break these rules, and a post that gets several reports is hidden automatically until a moderator reviews it.
